The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) belongs to the „Forschungsverbund Berlin e. V. (FVB)“. The FVB is an institution of seven natural sciences research institutes in Berlin funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and the association of its federal states. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz association.

The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) is a non-university academic research organisation dedicated to basic biomedical research and is located at the Research Campus Berlin-Buch in close vicinity to the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine and the Charité Experimental and Clinical Research Center.

The Medicinal Chemistry group at the FMP is focused on the chemical optimization of hits to chemical probes. The work environment provides access to state-of-the-art equipment and technologies for screening, in silico design, synthesis and biological testing of novel small molecule modulators.

Job description:

She/he works in close collaboration with molecular biologists, biochemist and molecular modelers to design and synthesize new inhibitors based on ligands or fragments with the final aim to improve their efficacy and selectivity. She/he will evolve systematic structure-activity-relationships (SAR) to identify appropriate conjugation sites of chemical groups for covalent proximity-labeling of a non-receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase and the multivalent presentation to a C-type lectin receptor.

The position offers a unique opportunity for candidates who wish to develop and apply their scientific knowledge, sound expertise and skills to tackle chemical biological problems spanning from basic research to fundamental industrial importance using small molecule inhibitors. The FMP provides an international, innovative and interdisciplinary work environment, with access to state of the art experimental and computational infrastructure.

Applicants should have a master’s degree in organic chemistry, chemical biology or medicinal chemistry.
