The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) belongs to the „Forschungsverbund Berlin e. V. (FVB)“. The FVB is an institution of eight natural sciences research institutes in Berlin funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and the association of its federal states. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz association.
The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) is a non-university academic research organisation dedicated to basic biomedical research and is located at the Research Campus Berlin-Buch in close vicinity to the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine and the Charité Experimental and Clinical Research Center.
The Medicinal Chemistry group at the FMP is focused on the chemical optimization of hits to chemical probes. The work environment provides access to state-of-the-art equipment and technologies for screening, in silico design, synthesis and biological testing of novel small molecule modulators.
We are looking for
2 Postdoctoral Researchers / Chemists (f/m/d)
working 39 hours/week initially temporary limited to 1 year with the potential of extension and starting as soon as possible.
She/he works in close collaboration with molecular biologists, biochemist and molecular modelers to design and synthesize new inhibitors based on screening hits to improve their efficacy and selectivity. She/he will evolve an initial hit–triage and hit expansion as well as systematic structure-activity-relationships (SAR) investigation through SAR by catalogue and single compound synthesis or by small focused libraries with the final aim to develop chemical tools.
The position offers a unique opportunity for candidates who wish to apply their scientific knowledge, sound expertise and skills to tackle chemical biological problems spanning from basic research to fundamental industrial importance using small molecule inhibitors. The FMP provides an international, innovative and interdisciplinary work environment, with access to state of the art experimental and computational infrastructure.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in organic chemistry, chemical biology or medicinal chemistry and should have sound experience in medicinal chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and especially heterocyclic chemistry.
Knowledge in the application of novel synthetic methodologies and parallel synthesis techniques will be advantageous. Expertise in operating and maintaining analytical and preparative HPLC as well as IT infrastructure is desirable. The successful candidates will be highly motivated and have excellent scientific skills. She/he should have good communication skills in English and an open, proactive personality to work in a team of young researchers.
