in Electrophysiology and/or Cell Biology (f/m/d)

In ERC- and DFG-funded projects, we investigate the structure-function, cell biology and physiology of anion channels in cell culture and in newly generated genetic mouse models. Projects are focused on the newly identified ASOR/TMEM206 and VRAC/LRRC8 channels, and on selected members of the CLC family of chloride channels and transporters. Intriguingly, VRAC channels not only transport chloride, but also organic molecules including neurotransmitters, messengers involved in innate immunity, and drugs.

We are an international, highly interdisciplinary team with a strong interest in the role of anion channels in the physiology and pathology of various organs, which include e.g. the brain, endocrine or immune cells, and the kidney. Our lab is well equipped with all common equipment for molecular cell biology and morphology and several patch-clamp setups, ion imaging, and confocal microscopy. We are closely associated with the MDC and have direct access to the outstanding core facilities of the FMP and the MDC. 

Postdoc in Electrophysiology / Biophysics

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with previous hands-on experience in patch-clamp analysis, preferably in brain slices, but also of transfected cells, as well as very good knowledge of neurophysiology. Additional experience in ion imaging and advanced data analysis would be an asset. The project(s) will involve the analysis of brain (and possibly other tissue) slices from various genetic mouse models for chloride transport generated in our lab, possibly combined with analysis of cells from primary cultures, or structure-function analysis of mutated channels and transporters in transfected cells. Our lab is fully equipped for electrophysiology, including three slice patch-clamp setups equipped with camera systems for ion imaging. We offer highly innovative projects in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment with the possibility to expand the candidate's abilities beyond electrophysiology. The educational background of successful candidates could be in biochemistry, biology, or physics.

Postdoc in Cell Biology / Molecular Physiology

We are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral researchers interested in unravelling exciting novel roles of anion transport in cellular and organismal function. After our molecular identification of novel anion channels, several of which also transport signaling molecules or localize to intracellular membranes, we dispose of several novel mouse models and other tools to discover new physiology and disease mechanisms in many different organs. A thorough background in cell biology and physiology is a prerequisite as is previous hands-on experience in standard techniques of molecular cell biology or morphology. Although the project may focus on a particular organ, the ideal candidate will be broadly interested in several areas of biology/physiology, such as neurobiology, nephrology, or immunology, as our research - depending on the transporter under study - may impact many different organs. Our lab is fully equipped for cell biology and morphology and is part of both the FMP and MDC with access to excellent facilities (e.g. advanced optical microscopy, EM, mass spec, screening unit etc). The educational background should be in natural sciences, including, but not limited to, biology, biochemistry, biophysics or medicine.

The positions are available immediately. The positions are limited for 2 years with an option for extension.
